We leave today. Me, my Mom, a couple Aunts and Uncles, all on a romp to Ireland. We’re meeting up at Mom and Dad’s and Dad and my Sister are driving us up to Rochester Airport. (more…)
Here we are, in Killarney. We pulled into the Mystical Rose at noon local time. The flight was uneventful considering we sat for almost two hours waiting to take off. Somewhere along the way the pilot made up half that so we were only an hour late into Shannon
Driving is a real experiance! I drove tonight and my Irish teacher was patient. Only a few times did he tell me to move over to my side a bit. Turning onto another street in an intersection was a bit nerve wracking the first few times. No left on red, cross hatches on the city streets at intersections when you are not allowed to stop (and block the intersection). A yellow flasshing light in the red, yellow, green light cycle to allow folks to cross the street or allow cars to go through if no one is there. Some of the rules of the road here are very different from home, some are very simillar. I’ll get it eventually. (more…)
We had a huge breakfast at the Mystical Rose Cereal, Juice, coffee, eggs, bacon and sausage. The bacon is a lot like what we call Canadian bacon. The sausages have a lighter texture than the sausages we have here in the states. And the coffee is served just the way I like it, nice and strong. (more…)
Today started out kinda slow. My Aunts and Uncles went out to do some exploring and shopping. Mom and I hung around the apartments. I did some laundry, the machines are very different with different settings. I finally got it figured out when one of my Aunts showed up to tell us they were all hanging out at O’Meara’s so we headed over to have some lunch and decide what to do in the afternoon. (more…)
Today we headed out for the Gap of Dunloe. The office for the tour we took is just down around the corner from our apartments on High St. in front of O’Conner’s Traditional Pub. (more…)
We drove down to Kinsale in the south of Co. Cork today to see the sea and have a seafood lunch. The rain was falling a good part of the day so the skies were overcast but not our spirit of adventure.
We didn’t make any plans today. We just did our own things.
Mom rode over to the Car rental place with my sister to get a car to head north with when we leave on Saturday. She dropped Mom off at St. Mary’s Cathedral and went to Shannon to pick up some of her friends who are flying in. I headed over to the Internet Café to read my emailsw and post some things to this blog. My Aunt’s and Uncles went off on shopping trips around Killarney. My photo bug Uncle took some very nice pictures around town so I am posting them to today’s album.
The Ring of Kerry was on the agenda for today. The bus picked us up right at the front door and we headed out on a romp around County Kerry. From the Mountains to the sea we saw all sorts of sights in the beautiful south west portion of Ireland.
Today we leave Killarney and head north to Ennis for the last two nights of our visit. It was sad leaving the friends we had come to see and there were a few tears saying goodbye. We had to be out of our apartments by 10:00ish and we had quite a time packing the cars since we had gotten so many souvenirs to take home to family and friends.
I will be adding things and making some changes over the next few days so check back for changes.
You too can enjoy the images we took while on our great adventure.
